POP SENSATION: HEVISAURUS

I recently found yet another rad blog, Ectoplasmosis!, and came across this Finnish sensation. Hevisaurus is, as far as I can tell, a dinosaur metal band for children that seems Hell-bent on teaching the youth of Finland how to head-bang and rock out with your cock out. That's right. Think about that for a minute untill you can feel the full-force of the awesomeness. I don't speak the language but that doesn't mean I can get into it. It speaks directly to me; loud music, head-banging, and cute/creepy dinosaur rockstars!

MUSIC: XIU XIU

I am living for Xiu Xiu today. I got their newest album ('Dear God, I Hate Myself') last week and I liked it so much I got two more today ('Fabulous Muscles' and 'Knife Play'). Their music is incredibly emotive and stirring, going all over from terribly sad and forlorn to whimsical and dancey. And the fact that lead singer Jamie Stewart is way sexy doesn't hurt either.

The videos I posted below are just some of my favorites, but I pretty much love everything on the albums I have.

Note: Some of these clips are not the band's official music videos.

PERFORMANCE GROUP: DANGERKAT, HOUSE OF

House of Dangerkat has been an obsession of mine for a couple of years now. Their performances are living art from beginning to end. It's a collaborative process that includes coreography, costume, fashion, makeup, and music all smashed up into an amazing performance piece. And "Dangerkat" herself and I share the same birthday (July 7th, if you wanted to know). They work in both Canada and New York and some day I hope to witness their awesomeness live.

MUSIC: WAITS, TOM

Tom Waits is a well-know looming creature in both music and film, so I won't beat a dead horse (although some of his music would seem to advocate that, quite literally). This song is so powerful and moving to me. I once heard him say in an interview that he was no actor, but I think he was being a bit overly modest. His characters always steal the show for me. People who are diversely multi-tallented fascinate me. I'm always really jealous of them.

AUDIO/VISUAL DELIGHT: "CAESAR" I BLAME COCO FEAT. ROBYN

I'm going to make an effort to post more often (for my own benefit and the benefit of my one devoted follower, holler at you girl). This video is a very good first entry in this new endeavor. My belief that everything Robyn touches turns to gold is reaffirmed.

OPERA: TOMORROW, IN A YEAR

Ok, so I literally just found out about this but I was so excited that I had to blog about it immediately!! (Did I really just type that?) Ew...anyway...LISTEN TO THIS!!! Genius music duo The Knife, in collaboration with Mt. Sims, and Planningtorock are collaborating to produce the music for an upcoming opera being arranged by Danish performance company Hotel Pro Forma. The opera is based on Charles Darwin's 'On The Origin of the Species'. Get excited, because it's BREATH-FUCKING-TAKING! One song from the opera is waiting at http://www.theknife.net/ to fill your senses with delight. It's called 'Colouring of Pigeons' and it's moving and it's beautiful. AND if you sign up for their mailing list you can download an mp3 of the song for your very own. CAN YOU TELL I'M EXCITED!?! Ok. I feel better. NOW GO! DO IT NOW! And then check out these related things (you won't be sorry):
