COMMERCE: ETSY

After talking about doing it for so long, I've finally started an Etsy shop. There are just a few items on it at the moment but check back frequently. I'm planning on becoming a lot more dedicated to making things. I'm hoping that all those stories I hear about people actually making some money from selling things on Etsy are true. Especially for when I start school again and can't have a real job.

ARTIST: VICENTE, FERNANDO

Check out these jaw-dropping illustrations by Fernando Vicente. I love the fusion of anatomical illustration and fashion advertising. And the series is aptly titled "Vanitas". LOVE.

The last drawing reminds me of some I did in the senior year of my BFA in 2007. I didn't find Fernando Vicente untill just earlier this year. Strange minds think alike I suppose. The following images are my own (poorly-photographed) drawings.

This video is RADICAL! It appears to be a promo video for a runway battle show. If only I lived in Stockholm. Then I could have gone to this AND I could be friends with Robyn. Sigh.

Squeeeeee!!!!! I JUST found this video of House of Dangerkat performing 'Opulence' from Juste Debout 2008. I fucking love this performance and I've watched the video they have posted on their Youtube page (that I reposted here a couple of weeks ago) like fifty times. It's pretty far away and fairly grainy, but this one looks like it's shot from backstage so it's way close! I hope you can tell I'm excited. Get into it.

MUSIC: XIU XIU

I am living for Xiu Xiu today. I got their newest album ('Dear God, I Hate Myself') last week and I liked it so much I got two more today ('Fabulous Muscles' and 'Knife Play'). Their music is incredibly emotive and stirring, going all over from terribly sad and forlorn to whimsical and dancey. And the fact that lead singer Jamie Stewart is way sexy doesn't hurt either.

The videos I posted below are just some of my favorites, but I pretty much love everything on the albums I have.

PERFORMANCE GROUP: DANGERKAT, HOUSE OF

House of Dangerkat has been an obsession of mine for a couple of years now. Their performances are living art from beginning to end. It's a collaborative process that includes coreography, costume, fashion, makeup, and music all smashed up into an amazing performance piece. And "Dangerkat" herself and I share the same birthday (July 7th, if you wanted to know). They work in both Canada and New York and some day I hope to witness their awesomeness live.
